By the Numbers

Violent felony arrests make up more than half (51%) of all 2022 felony arrests

Most (64%) of violent felony arrests were for felony battery/assault charges

Felony battery/assault charges were also the most likely violent felony charges to be refused for prosecution – only 42% of these cases were accepted for prosecution

Of the 602 closed violent felony cases in 2022:

  • 10% pled or were found guilty as charged
  • 23% pled or were found guilty of a lesser violent felony

National studies have reported a 49% rate of violent felony conviction for violent felony charges (source)

These numbers suggest an ongoing disconnect between police and prosecutors
