It has been a crushingly violent week, yet again.

TWELVE more homicides this week, including an inmate killed while in custody.  Currently the 7th District – also the largest – has seen at least 37 homicides this year, the highest of any NOPD district.  Later this week, we will release additional district-level data on major violent crimes. Overall, we’ve seen a 52% increase in homicides relative to 2021 and a 150% increase relative to 2019

Shootings are 92% higher relative to 2019 and 5% lower relative to 2021 – again, the 7th District has seen the highest number of shooting incidents (64). Is worth noting that we did have another mass shooting incident (defined as 4 or more victims) in the 3rd District over the weekend, so the 215 shooting incidents reported to date is significantly lower than the actual number of shooting victims to date

Carjacking is up 182% relative to 2019 and 5% relative to 2021 – the gap between 2021-2022 is narrowing rapidly, suggesting that there has been a bit of a slowdown recently.  The 7th District remains at the top of the list for number of carjacking incidents (36), with the 5th and 6th Districts not far behind (25 and 19 carjacking incidents, respectively)

Armed robbery is up 20% relative to 2019 and 26% relative to 2021.  In this category, the 3rd District has the highest number of reported armed robbery (40 to date), with the 8thDistrict closely following at 38 armed robberies

Stay safe and have a great week!
