This week we are including a district-level breakdown of the major violent incidents to highlight trends in where violent crime is happening in the city.

Throughout the week, we will feature district trends for each major violent crime on our social media and website.  The data includes an aggregate map of all four major violent crime categories.

-Five homicides in the last week – note that two were domestic in nature, including a murder/suicide that occurred Sunday, June 19.  We have reached 140 homicides, a 150% increase relative to 2019 and a 51% increase relative to 2021

-Several shooting incidents over the weekend brings our YTD total to 224, a 98% increase relative to 2019 but a 7% decrease relative to 2021

-Carjacking incidents are 188% higher relative to 2019 but have slowed down relative to 2021 (+4%)

-Armed robbery is increasing, now up 29% relative to 2021.  Unlike other violent crime categories, there is a much more equal distribution across the NOPD districts in the number of reported armed robberies – this is the only category in which the 7th District does not have the highest number of incidents.  Rather, there is a relatively even split between the 3rdDistrict (17%), 1st District (16%), 7th District (15%), and the 5th and 8th Districts, accounting for 14% each.

Stay safe, stay tuned, and have a great week!
