Another five homicides last week brings us to 109 for 2022, up 45% relative to 2021, 91% relative to 2020, and 160% relative to 2019 – homicide has increased more than any other violent crime category relative to 2021
Shooting incidents are still 93% and 53% higher than 2019-2020, respectively, but remain 9% lower relative to 2021
Some positive news to discuss as it relates to carjacking – while we are still 232% higher relative to 2019, there has been a sharp decline over the last 6 weeks or so. In January 2022, we had 54 reported carjacking incidents (an average of nearly 2 per day). Since April, only 16 carjacking incidents have occurred
Armed robbery incidents are up 26% relative to 2021, 48% relative to 2020, and 25% relative to 2019. These are similar to the rates of increase we have reported on armed robbery for the past several weeks
The carjacking slowdown is encouraging – hard to know exactly what is contributing to the recent reduction, but hoping to see this trend continue!
Stay safe and have a great week!
