At least 167 homicides to date in 2022 –

This represents an increase of 142% over 2019 and 53% increase over the same time in 2021.

There have been 264 non-fatal shooting incidents to date in 2022 –

This is 102% higher than 2019, 50% increase over 2020, but an 11% reduction compared with 2021.

Carjacking incidents have picked up a bit again –

At 177 YTD, we are 195% higher than 2019, 95% higher than 2020, and 9% higher than 2021.

Armed robbery is rather clearly on the rise –

We are now at 315 in 2022, a 35% increase relative to 2019, 63% increase relative to 2020, and 43% relative to 2021.

Takeaways

Homicide by District

The 7thand 5th Districts account for the highest percentage of homicides (34% and 19%, respectively), representing a combined 53% of 2022 homicides.

The 2ndand 8th Districts account for the lowest percentage of 2022 homicides (5% each, 10% combined)

Shootings by District

Half of all 2022 shooting incidents have been reported in either the 7thDistrict (29%) or the 5th District (21%).

Again, the 2ndand 8th Districts account for the fewest reported shooting incidents (4% and 5%, respectively)

Carjacking by District

The 7thDistrict remains highest compared to other districts, accounting for 26% of carjackings – somewhat evenly distributed across 1st (15%), 5th (15%) and 6th (14%) Districts

Unsurprisingly, the 8thDistrict (French Quarter/Convention Center) has the fewest carjackings, at only 4% of those reported in 2022.

Armed Robbery by District

Most equal distribution across the eight NOPD Districts – two highest are the 7th(18%) and 3rd (16%) Districts.

The lowest numbers are reported in 4th(6%) and 2nd (8%) Districts
