Carjacking incidents are steadily ticking back up –

At 190 YTD, we are 202% higher than 2019, 98% higher than 2020, and 9% higher than 2021.

 

 

Armed robbery continues to slowly rise across the city –

We are now at 348 in 2022, a 32% increase relative to 2019, 66% increase relative to 2020, and 44% relative to 2021.

At least 178 homicides to date in 2022 –

This represents an increase of 131% over 2019 and 44% increase over the same time in 2021.

However, in 2021, only 24% of YTD shooting incidents resulted in a fatality vs. 32% in 2022

There have been 293 non-fatal shooting incidents to date in 2022 –

This is a 99% increase over 2019, 44% increase over 2020, but a 9% reduction compared with 2021.

 

DISTRICT-LEVEL CRIME TRENDS

Homicide by District

The 7thand 5th Districts account for the highest percentage of homicides (33% and 21%, respectively), representing a combined 54% of 2022 homicides.

The 2ndand 8th Districts account for the lowest percentage of 2022 homicides (5% each, 10% combined)

Four of the five homicides reported last week occurred in the 5th District

Shootings by District

Half of all 2022 shooting incidents have been reported in either the 7thDistrict (28%) or the 5th District (22%)

Again, the 2ndand 8th Districts account for the fewest reported shooting incidents (4% each, 8% combined)

 

 

Carjacking by District

The 7thDistrict remains highest compared to other districts, accounting for 24% of carjackings – somewhat evenly distributed across 5th (17%), 1st (15%) and 6th (14%) Districts

Unsurprisingly, the 8th District (French Quarter/Convention Center) has the fewest carjackings, at only 4% of those reported in 2022.

Armed Robbery by District

Armed robbery has the most equal distribution across the eight NOPD Districts – two highest are the 7th (17%) and 5th (16%) Districts

BUT, just barely, as the 1st and 3rd Districts each account for 15% and the 8th District accounts for 13%

The lowest numbers are reported in 4th(6%) and 2nd (8%) Districts
