YTD HOMICIDE:

Within the first nine months of 2022, YTD homicides have surpassed totals for both 2020 (201 homicides) and 2021 (218 homicides)

Homicide is now up 142% since 2019 and 45% since last year

 

 

-The sharp increase continues to draw national attention as we are outpacing all other major U.S. cities in per capita homicides (Source)  

The combined total of fatal + nonfatal shooting incidents in 2022 has reached 534 – of these, 174 have been fatal shootings (33% fatality rate)

  

Last year, 25% of all shooting incidents resulted in a fatality (124 of 501 total)

*Please note: our homicide total includes vehicular/hit & run fatalities, as well as those homicides later deemed justified or negligent 

 

Carjacking incidents this past week slowed a bit – though at 225 YTD, we remain 181% higher than the same time in 2019 and 10% higher than 2021

 

 

Armed Robberies are outpacing all other violent crimes with a YTD total of 417 (+46% since 2021, +60% since 2020, and +28% since 2019) and are occurring at an increased rate in every single NOPD District
