The shooting death of a 17-year-old on Friday night broke a nearly week-long streak without a homicide in New Orleans.

At 222 YTD homicides, we have surpassed year-end totals for 2019-2021.

YTD Homicides are now at 222 – an increase of 141% since 2019 and 41% since last year

The combined total of fatal + nonfatal shooting incidents in 2022 has reached 543

 

– Of these, 176 have been fatal shootings (32% fatality rate)

 

Last year, 25% of shooting incidents had resulted in a fatality (130 of 515 total)

Armed Robberies are outpacing all other violent crimes with a YTD total of 429 (+49% since 2021, +58% since 2020, and +29% since 2019) and are occurring at an increased rate in every single NOPD District

 

 

Carjacking incidents are +183% higher compared with 2019, with a widening 13% increase over 2021
