It is still too early in the year to compare year-to-date standings, as there is often substantial weekly fluctuation in violent crime.

As of January 22, 2023:

Homicide Victims: 19 (3 since last week vs. 1 prior week)

Nonfatal Shooting Incidents: 32 (5 since last week vs. 8 prior week)

Carjacking: 18 (3 since last week vs. 8 prior week)

Armed Robbery: 32 (11 since last week vs. 11 prior week)

In the first 22 days of 2023, there have been at least 597 reported car thefts.

This is an average of over 27 stolen cars per DAY

…at at rate of over 1 car per HOUR reported stolen

Kia and Hyundai models continue to be of particular interest – take extra measures to keep your vehicle safe!

A note about homicides

While we cross-check our numbers against coroner records, major offense logs, media reports, and any other source available, homicide numbers are subject to change as investigations progress.  Homicides may be reclassified as “undetermined” if the coroner cannot definitively state whether the injury was self-inflicted, accidental, or intentional.  More commonly, deaths initially listed as “unclassified” are reclassified as “homicide” after autopsy.
