5th District 2023 Trends

 

 

HOMICIDE in the 5th District increased 25% relative to Q1 2022.  As of Q1 2023, the 5th District accounted for 16% of Orleans homicides – a significant improvement over 2021, when 26% of the city’s homicides occurred in the 5th District

 

5th District SHOOTING INCIDENTS remain 44% higher than Q1 2019 and 92% higher than Q1 2020.  While these incidents show a marginal decrease compared with 2022 (-8%), the 5th District accounts for 20% of the nonfatal shooting incidents in Orleans as of Q1 2023

 

CARJACKING in the 5th District spiked dramatically in 2022, consistent with trends seen across the city during that time period.  However, the 68% decrease we have seen in Q1 2023 is the largest of any district in the city

 

ARMED ROBBERY in the 5th District shows decreases compared with 2019-2022. Most notably, 5th District armed robberies are 32% lower than Q1 2019 and 21% lower than Q1 2022 – one of the few districts that has not returned to pre-pandemic armed robbery rates
In 2021-2022, the 5th District was among the top two NOPD Districts for nearly all categories of major violent crime. 
As of Q1 2023, the 5th District was ranked 4th out of 8 districts on Homicide, Carjacking, and Armed Robbery (ranked 2nd in shooting incidents)
