2023 7th District Trends

 

HOMICIDE is down in the 7th District by 41% since 2022. At 17 at the end of Q1 2023, there had been 17 homicides, accounting for 25% of the Q1 total.  In contrast, at the same time in 2022, 29 homicides had occurred in the 7th District, accounting for 40% of the YTD total

 

SHOOTING INCIDENTS  have increased modestly each year since 2019.  The 7th District accounted for 34% of Orleans nonfatal shooting incidents as of the end of Q1 in 2023

 

CARJACKING incidents in the 7th District peaked in 2021 (most NOPD districts saw drastic increases in carjacking in 2022).   Carjacking incidents in the 7th District are down 67% compared with 2022 and 70% compared with 2021.    

 

ARMED ROBBERY has shown little variation in the 7th District between 2019-2023.  The 28 reported armed robbery incidents at the end of Q1 2023 accounted for 24% of Orleans’ armed robberies, more than any other NOPD district
Due in part to its large size and population, the 7th District consistently ranks among the top two NOPD Districts in all categories of major violent crime.  However, as of the end of Q1 2023, violent crime has shown a more equal distribution across Districts, with the 7th accounting for lower overall rates of violence in Orleans Parish.
