Sadly, another violent week in New Orleans…
Since our last update, 7 more individuals have lost their lives to violence, bringing our 2022 homicide total to 117. This is 56% higher relative to 2021, and is rapidly approaching the total number of 2019 homicides (121)
We experienced at least two mass shootings over the weekend as well, each of which left one dead – 4 people were shot in one incident on St. Claude Friday night and 3 were shot in another incident in the French Quarter the following evening. Shooting incidents are 8% lower relative to 2021, but we are seeing more frequent multiple-victim shootings and seemingly deadlier outcomes
Carjacking (+17% relative to 2021) and armed robbery (+22% relative to 2021) remain higher compared with prior years, but are not spiking to the extent that homicides have
Hoping we have better news to report next week – until then, stay safe and have a happy Memorial Day weekend!
