Takeaways:

Arrests: Police continue to prioritize violent felony arrests over all other categories of crime.

Screening: The MCC documented a 50% acceptance rate during the first 8 months of the DA’s administration, which has grown to a 58% acceptance rate in the first 7 weeks of 2022.

Dispositions: Cases continue to backlog, with 191 felony cases closed compared to 246 that were accepted for prosecution. Hopefully, more cases will close when jury trials resume March 7, 2022.

Five murders since Friday (2/18) brings our 2022 total to 34, a 79% increase over 2019 and a 36% increase over 2021.
Carjacking is still showing highest rate of increase. We’ve had at least 73 carjacking incidents, 421% higher than 2019, 204% higher than 2020, and 74% higher than 2021.
Shootings and armed robberies also remain in the red, with 2021-2022 increases of 24% and 48%, respectively.
