2022-2023 CARJACKING Trends 

 

43% DECLINE in citywide carjacking vs. June 30, 2022 (YTD 2022 = 154 vs. YTD 2023 = 88)

 

43% of 2023 carjacking incidents occurred in either the 7th District (23%; 20 carjackings) or 3rd District (20%; 18 carjackings)

7th District carjacking is down 50%, from 40 YTD 2022 to 20 YTD 2023 – the largest raw number drop of any NOPD District.

5th District carjacking has also shown substantial decline (-54%, from 26 in 2022 to 12 in 2023).

1st District and 6th District carjacking each decreased by 57% in 2023 vs. 2022, each from 21 in 2022 to 9 in 2023.
