Takeaways
Seems our end-of-summer lull has come to an end…
Last week was a violent one – TEN murders brings our homicide total to at least 196 to date in 2022
- an increase of 136% relative to 2019
- 42% higher than the same time in 2021
Non-fatal shooting incidents remain 9% lower than 2021
HOWEVER…
- Homicide by shooting is 33% higher than 2021
- At this time in 2021, 25% of all shooting incidents had resulted in a fatality, compared to 32% in 2022
Carjacking incidents are 208% higher compared with 2019, but at a 7% increase over 2021, these incidents seem to have slowed down a bit
Armed robbery is currently tied with homicide as showing the highest (42%) overall increase compared with last year
- We saw fewer armed robberies last week than we have been seeing – this COULD be related to the exceedingly rainy week we had (fewer opportunities, etc.), though this is only speculation
