Last week was a wild one, including a quadruple (mass) shooting at a Dollar Tree in Gentilly.  This shooting incident came only one day after two people were shot and killed at/near a Walgreens not far from the Dollar Tree.

We had six homicides last week, bringing our 2022 total to 264 – at this rate, we may reach 275, the highest New Orleans has seen since 1996

In the month of December, we have already recorded 10 homicides

An increase of 134% compared with 2019 and 34% compared with this time last year.

We had 15 shooting incidents in the past week, one of which injured 4 shoppers at a Gentilly Dollar Tree.
We can see that violent crime was beginning to tick up around this time in past years, as some of the gaps are shrinking.

While carjacking is still 168% higher than in 2019, we are only seeing a 1% increase compared to this time last year.

With an increase of +42% since last year, armed robbery is still the only category of major violent crime to show more growth relative to 2021 than to 2019.
