The month of October has seen a slowing down of homicides – suggests some of newly implemented NOPD strategies may be helping…

At 228 homicides to date:

-We are still 140% higher than 2019 

-37% higher than the same time period last year

Nonfatal shooting incidents are 92% higher than 2019 and 20% higher than 2020 –

Although we are currently 4% lower than 2021, it is worth noting that we are still having a higher rate of shooting fatalities compared with last year

– At this time last year, 26% of all shooting incidents had resulted in a fatality 

– In contrast, 33% of shootings in 2022 have resulted in a fatality

 

Individuals are more likely to die as a result of gunshot injuries in 2022 compared to 2021

*Please note: our homicide total includes vehicular/hit & run fatalities, as well as those homicides later deemed justified or negligent 

Armed robbery continues to show more rapid increase than any other violent crime category

-At 448 YTD incidents, we are well above pre-pandemic levels (+31% since 2019, +49% since last year)

 

 

 

Carjacking incidents are now at 240 YTD – an increase of 186% since 2019 and 14% since 2021
