At four homicides as of June 30, 2023, the 8th District has the lowest homicide rate of any district.
NONFATAL SHOOTING INCIDENTS (+200% since 2019; +200% since 2020; -45% since 2021;+33% since 2022).
In 2021, the 8th District experienced a high number of nonfatal shooting incidents (22 as of June 30, 2021). This coincided with a reduction in tourism in the city during the COVID-19 pandemic and declining NOPD manpower.
Nonfatal shootings in the 8th District dropped 45% from 2021 (22) to 2022 (9 YTD).
As of June 30, 2023, there was an increase of 33%, from 9 to 12 at the end of Q2.
Nonfatal shootings in the 8th District are more common in the French Quarter in and around bars near Bourbon and Royal Streets.

The 8th District has the lowest rate of carjacking and has shown very little change across the 5-year period.
ARMED ROBBERY (-32% since 2019; +62% since 2020; -9% since 2021; -45% since 2022).
Armed robbery tends to be the most common type of violent crime in the 8th District. During the COVID-19 pandemic, 8th District armed robbery fell significantly, from 31 in 2019 to 13 in 2020. Since peaking at 38 in 2022, armed robbery is down 45% in the 8th District.
Armed robbery hotspots are primarily along St. Louis Street in the French Quarter and along Esplanade Ave near Frenchman Street at the edge of the Marigny.
